The youth art festival Eldur í Húnaþingi begins on Wednesday the 22th of July and the program continues throughout the 26th of July. The festival has been held every year since 2003 and offers a very ambitious culture and entertainment for all ages.
The program covers everything from courses for children to ambitious concert events. One of the highlights of the festival is a concert held in Borgarvirki, a fort made out of basalt strata, where nationally famous musicians provide the music and this year it's in the hands of Friðrik Dór. Following that, the Viking/folk metal band Skálmöld will make some noice at the community center in Hvammstangi. Most events of the festival are free of charge.
