On 23th of December Icelanders celebrate Mass of St. Thorlac. (Þorláksmessa) In modern time it is customary to eat buried and fermented fish Skate along with potatoes on this day. The ammonia-infused odour of fermented skate is quite strong, similar to Icelandic Shark.
